Apps and Websites
Merlin Bird ID, likely one of the most popular birding apps available. Great for out in the field if traveling light. You can upload photos and sound files to the app to aid in bird ID.
Winnebago Audubon Society has regularly scheduled events, along with providing other community outreach.
Books
Tekiela, Stan. Birds of Wisconsin Field Guide. 3rd ed., Adventure Publications, 7 Apr. 2020.
This is the newer 3rd edition. I have the 2nd edition, which is a great, smaller book if you want something for out in the field. I actually have several of Stan's field guides, including wildflowers and trees.
Janssen, Robert B, et al. Birds of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Edmonton, Lone Pine Pub, 2003.
An older book, and probably more useful for leisurely reading. The one downside of this book is that it contains illustrations vs photographs, which I sometimes find more difficult when trying to identify a bird. But overall, still a great book if you enjoy more in-depth descriptions.
